Cygnus is protecting luxury residential development opposite Buckingham Palace.

Project overview

A stone’s throw from Buckingham Palace, No. 1 Palace Street is one of London’s most prestigious residential developments.

Due for completion in 2020, the 3,900 sq m luxury apartment development will comprise of 71 apartments in a six-storey Grade II listed building. Located opposite Buckingham Palace, this development will be the only residential buildings to overlook the Palace gardens.

The full residential scheme involves the refurbishment of the existing Grade II listed building, construction behind the retained facades as well as the build of a four-storey basement offering additional luxury facilities.

The challenge

When a fire breaks out, the loss of a building’s contents that hold historic value are irreplaceable. Ensuring no damage was done to the existing elements of the building was a high priority for this project.

The solution

The installation of the Cygnus Wireless Alarm System ensures workers can be warned of a fire quickly. It has also removed the use of hardwires and cables, thus protecting the building’s original structure from damage.

The alarm installed featured a double-knock feature to limit false and malicious alarms, ensuring workers pressed the alarm twice to enable the alarm and an evacuation.

A portable alarm system developed with major construction companies. It incorporates all the features needed for large construction projects requiring a temporary fire alarm system. The system comprises of remote wireless devices powered by an internal battery pack. Its wireless mesh technology is highly advanced and has increased radio sensitivity allowing it to cover large areas.
